Morgan President David Wilson surprised about 100 graduating eighth graders at the Bluford Drew Jemison Science Technology Engineering Mathematics Academy on Saturday, June 4, when he presented each with a letter of admission to attend the university. Dr. Wilson announced their acceptance into the MSU Class of 2015 during his commencement address to the graduates and their families.
"If these young men will maintain a 3.0 grade point average and at least a 900 SAT score, I will reserve their space at Morgan in 2015," says Wilson.

More than 250 Baltimore City business and community leaders attended the 3rd Annual H.O.P.E. Celebration at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History. The May 27th event was organized to raise funds for the scholars at Bluford Drew Jemison Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) Academy (BDJA).
Sponsored by Verizon, the event was attended by a number of elected officials including Senators Catherine Pugh and Verna Jones, Councilwoman Helen Holton and Council President Bernard C. "Jack" Young. Also in attendance were Frederick Bealefeld, Baltimore City Police Commissioner, and Dr. Reginald S. Avery, President of Coppin State University.
Keynote speaker and recipient of the H.O.P.E. Award was Tyrone D. Taborn, Chairman and CEO of Career Communications Group, Inc., founder of the Black Engineer of the Year Awards STEM Global Competitiveness Conference, and Publisher of Black Engineering Magazine and Hispanic Engineering Magazine. Taborn counts the H.O.P.E. Award as one of his most esteemed and said that "It is an honor to be chosen to receive the HOPE Award from an institution that is assisting to secure America's future by educating tomorrow's leaders."
