The Board of Bluford Drew Jemison S.T.E.M. Academy, Inc. (BDJA) believes the primary responsibility of BDJA is the development of self-reliant, individually responsible, self-disciplined, well-educated and morally upright young men. Further, it believes that BDJA should provide a comprehensive program of educational experiences designed to serve the interests, goals, aptitudes and abilities of all scholars.
BDJA is founded on the belief that an education steeped in a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) curriculum is essential to preparing all scholars for high-achieving secondary and post-secondary education opportunities that fully personify this heritage. For BDJA, a STEM scholastic institution is defined as:
"We are a school that excites, engages, exposes and promotes STEM fields through curriculum, instruction, school environment and extracurricular activities and programs, in a way that scholars are more likely to see themselves pursuing STEM careers; where high standards and high expectations are the norm; and where all scholars are expected to perform at a high level. We use technology on a daily basis to enhance learning in the classroom."
Believing parents are the primary educators of their children, BDJA fosters positive social skills first taught at home, that can be shared with the wider community. It is our aim to prepare male scholars to take their rightful place as contributing and participatory members of our city, state, nation and world. This is accomplished by helping them recognize the interdependence of our society and encouraging them to take an active and positive role in shaping the community and the world.
